Angola vote result by end of week: electoral commission

Angola's final election results will be released by the end of the week, the electoral commission said Monday, with the tally having already sealed another term for veteran President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.

"We should be able to announce the final result by the end of the week, knowing that we have until September 15 to do so," National Electoral Commission spokeswoman Julia Ferreira told AFP.

Foreign observers have given the vote a clean bill of health, in only the country's third elections since 1975, despite opposition parties saying the commission's results differed from those being registered at polling stations.

The final announcement is set to be a mere formality, with the latest partial results showing the ruling People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) taking 72.2 percent of the vote with 90 percent of polling stations reporting.

The main opposition National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (Unita), a former guerilla movement, had won 18.4 percent of votes, while the newcomer Casa party formed by breakaways from both main parties had obtained 5.9 percent.

"After the publication of the final results, the MPLA will announce the formation of a new government which will work for all Angolans without exception," Dos Santos said Sunday night at a ceremony to celebrate his 70th birthday, the Angop news agency reported.

Under the Angolan constitution the head of the party that wins the parliamentary vote becomes president.

Dos Santos, who celebrated his birthday on Tuesday, entered the elections seen as likely to secure another term after 33 years in power.

The foreign missions judged the polls as free and fair but have recommended improvements in accreditation for observers and access to state media for parties.

After a devastating 27-year civil war, the elections are the country's second in peacetime and the third since independence from Portugal in 1975.

Pledging support for a home for German Choc and his family ? Edgy ...

Although the focus of my blog has widened, I began EdgyAmelia?as a place to share information about disability rights and human rights issues as they relate to German Chub Choc. German Choc is a young Guatemalan man of indigenous Maya Qeqchi descent. He lives in El Estor, a region harmed by HudBay Minerals, an exploitative Canadian?nickel-mining corporation. In 2009, German was paralyzed when private security guards hired by HudBay Minerals? subsidiary in Guatemala, CGN, shot him in an unprovoked attack.

I have described how HudBay Minerals? brutalization of the Maya Qeqchi communities led to the attack in??German Choc is a Human Rights Defender?Intersectional Identities.???German Choc will share his own story in the forthcoming documentary film Defensora.?The moving trailer, which shows the people of El Estor?s struggle to attain justice against HudBay Minerals,?is available at?http://www.indiegogo.com/defensora.?I encourage you to watch and share the trailer for Defensora through Causes, available at this link:?https://www.causes.com/causes/70-end-violence-against-women-in-guatemala/actions/1675214

?Now, I wish to give an update on German Choc and his family, and share information about an exciting opportunity to support the Choc family?s self-sufficiency by raising fund for their home and land.

Update on German?s store

German Choc in his store, 2012.

Since January 2012, German has been operating a small corner store from a room in his home, where he lives with his wife and young son. The organization Rights Action, which?funds and works with community human rights and development organizations in Guatemala, was able to raise the start-up funds for this store?with support from individual donors and a small foundation.

Update on Choc Family

Unfortunately, German Choc and his parents are not able to sustain themselves financially. To help German Choc and his family live with greater economic security,?Rights Action aims to purchase a small plot of land with a small home for German Choc to live with his wife, son, and parents. The Choc family would plan to build an addition for German?s store, and adapt the house and path to be wheelchair accessible.

German sits on the plot of land, by the bamboo walled home, where he hopes to live with his wife, young son and parents. July, 2012.

Rights Action needs help raising $22,500 for this plot of land and accessible home for the Choc family, and is seeking pledges from people to?raise?or donate?$500 or more.?The ultimate goal of purchasing the land and home is to help the Choc family acquire long-term economic self-sufficiency?by providing a space where German can operate his store, and land where his parents can farm. To help the Choc family achieve long-term stability, which was violently taken from them when German was attacked:

  • I ask that you please share this post with your networks, and please consider making a pledge toward purchasing land and a home for the Choc family.
  • To make a pledge, please contact Rights Action Co-Director Grahame Russell via phone:?860-352-2448 or email:?info@rightsaction.org
  • Once Rights Action has acquired pledges near $22,500, Rights Action will send the entire amount to the Choc family, and ask the people who have made pledges to send Rights Action the amount they have raised.

German Choc and his family, 2012.

The Budget shows how pledges will be used to purchase land and a home for the Choc family

Link Acclaim Building with Articles | SEO Internet Marketing

Link recognition building is one of the elements that will enable you to enjoy success with your online presence. The term ?link popularity? is really merely a measure which takes into account the quality and quantity of other web sites that link to any other website. Your website is, of course, the one that you will focus your link acceptance building efforts. There are lots of paths to build links into your website, and, sadly, many of them are rather time-consuming and dreary. As well as this, as long as the search engines are using link acclaim as a main gauge of how to rank your internet site in the results, you are going to need to continuously perform backlink building. This isn?t something that you do once and wait for results. It is an ongoing process.

Having said this, there?s nothing difficult about getting links to your website. You can submit your site to the various search websites, comment on forums, blogs, and within social media websites, and do some article writing, which is what we will target in this post.

Article writing is more time-consuming than submitting your website to directories, posting, and commenting, but it could also be much more effective when done the proper way. The key to writing and submitting articles so as to bring backlinks to your website is to be consistent, and that?s usually hard for busy web-based marketers. One solution to that difficulty is to hire someone to write the articles for you. This can be done at any of the independent sites such as Elance.com or Guru.com. Nevertheless if you know your subject and audience well, you can often do the articles better and faster than somebody that you would pay to do that.

When creating your articles, or teaching somebody to do them for you, make sure you give them extremely focused keywords to target. If you?re only starting in your niche, you will want to target the less competitive keywords which you will find thru the free Google Adwords Keyword Research tool or any paid keyword research tool. The more targeted and relevant your keywords that you use in your articles are to your internet site, the better quality links you will be getting back to it.

One strategy is to scribble many articles all at the same time, and then to submit them separately. You can write 5 to ten articles in 24 hours and then submit one each day as an example. Or you can write one article each 1 or 2 days and submit it as you do it. You may then ?spin? your article (change it enough so it seems to be unique to the search sites) by changing the title, first sentence in every paragraph, and even the keywords if you like. Submit your articles to EzineArticles.com and GoArticles, a couple of the best ranking article directories. You can select to take a position in an article-submitter which may submit your articles to hundreds of different article directories, and may even spin the original work for you. Bookmarking your articles will also help in the link acclaim building process.

What a buzz: For Obama, beer a way to connect

Obama and his team frequently talk about the president's fondness for beer, and Obama has been photographed many times downing a beer, including an appearance at the Iowa State Fair last month. Being identified as a beer drinker is an easy way for Obama to connect with votes and serves as a not-so-subtle reminder that his Republican rival Mitt Romney, a Mormon, doesn't drink. FILE - In this July 30, 2009 file photo, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have a beer with Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr., second from left, and Cambridge, Mass., police Sgt. James Crowley in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon, File)

(AP) ? President Barack Obama was barely back in Iowa, ready to drink in the adulation of supporters, when the booze news broke: The White House beer recipe is out.

The tweet from presidential spokesman Jay Carney along the motorcade ride seemed light enough ? we're talking about honey-flavored beer here ? but it also served up a reminder of a campaign imperative. Obama wants to be the guy with whom people want to have a beer.

As constituencies go, Obama would seem to have the voting bloc locked up, given that his opponent, Republican Mitt Romney, does not consume alcohol given his Mormon faith.

But as a political symbol, beer is not just about beer.

It is about the likeable, accessible, regular guy who relates to life in the real world and enjoys popping a cold one. Sure, taste counts, but so do votes.

Romney and Obama are both wealthy men who, in the final two months of the campaign, are trying to build support and turnout among the working-class crowd.

It is why Obama's day in Iowa was not just about his speeches in two cities, but his unexpected stop in Bob Roe's Point After Pizza & Lounge in Sioux City, where one woman wore a t-shirt that said "It's never too early to tailgate."

During his term, Obama has sought to find some racial harmony over beer (there was that media-hyped "beer summit" in the Rose Garden.) He has worked the crowds in sports bars and college bars. He has bought a round for folks at the Iowa State Fair, where the standard cry of political rallies ? "Four More Years!" ? morphed into the more memorable "Four More Beers!"

And now he even brews his own.

Well, the chefs at the most famous and powerful house in America brew it for him, but it was his idea, and he bought the brewing kit.

"Brewing beer is becoming a thing that Americans are doing in their houses and garages across the country," said White House chef Sam Kass in a video posted Saturday on the White House web site. "And the president certainly thought it would be a great idea to see if would join the American people in that time-honored tradition."

The Obama team knew it had a buzz going here.

Word spread about the home-brewed White House beer last month when Obama, during another stop in Iowa, got in a conversation with a local resident about it. The president had an aide bring the man a bottle of the beer brewed in the White House kitchen.

Since then, growing interest and even a petition drive led the White House to release the recipe just as Obama starts his battleground-state tour toward the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

"Ale to the Chief," said the White House blog post, which included a link to the brewing process.

The White House's rookie brew crew has made three kinds: Honey Brown Ale, Honey Porter and Honey Blonde Ale, although recipes for the first two only were released on Saturday. Kass said on-site historians have determined this is the first time alcohol has been brewed or distilled at the White House.

Add that to Obama's first-term record.

Should he lose, the White House bar menu may well look different. Romney drinks Cherry Coke Zero or Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi.

Even working the bar crowd can offer a little political risk. Just as Obama roamed the pizza place on Saturday, the Iowa fans who filled the place groaned as a long touchdown was scored against their team. "I don't want to be associated with that play," Obama told three men dejected as he came to their table.

Worse yet, their pitcher of beer was empty.

Cheap fights and the changes in comfort | Travel and Leisure

Some of you reading this article may be seniors. Remember there can be some very attractive cheap flights on offer to you in your silver and golden years. You will be old enough to remember what it used to be like or, for those of you with richer parents and grandparents, there will be stories from the earliest years of powered flights. Not to put too fine a point on it, the first sixty or seventy years were positively dangerous. We?re used to aircraft being the safest form of public transport with the fewest number of fatalities per passenger mile. But when they were just starting out, engines would fail and, in the wrong conditions, there would be damage to the wings or control surfaces. If you were lucky, the landing was a controlled crash. If you were unlucky, the chances of walking away were small. Yet flying was the glamorous way to travel. Mostly, it was the preserve of the rich and the reckless who huddled together in the noisy and vibrating cabins as the plane slowly made its way in the direction of the stated destination.

Only in more recent years have the cabins been pressurized and soundproofed. Now we can look out of the windows and not be frightened by seeing the wings flexing up and down as we might expect in a bird. Yet, for all there?s been an improvement in the general level of comfort, the seats remain uncomfortable in the general cabin area, there?s very little leg room, and sleeping is difficult on long hauls. Yet this is the price we willingly pay for cheap flights. If we don?t want airlines to charge higher rates, we have to tolerate them cramming more seats into the same space to make their profit from passenger volume. And talking of volume, the rise in the number of people who are overweight is making the seats even more uncomfortable for everyone. So here?s the big decision for you. Is price so important you will always prefer cheap flights no matter how uncomfortable? Or will there come a point when you will pay a little more to be comfortable?
