While female enhancement procedures address physical attributes that may cause insecurity, they aren?t a cure for deep-rooted emotional disorders such as depression.

Labiaplasty and vaginoplasty are two procedures we use to achieve female enhancement.

Labiaplasty is surgery that addresses the labia, which is the structure composed of skin and adipose tissue that protects the clitoris, vagina and urethra opening- similar to lips. The labia consists of two main parts: the labia majora (outer lip) and labia minora (inner lip.)

The size, color and condition of this structure varies from woman to woman. For some women, the labia minora is small and nearly hidden by the lips of the labia majora, while in others the labia minora protrudes beyond the lips of the labia majora.

In fact, Khoisan women?s labia minora- called ?khoikhoi aprons-? have been known to hang up to four inches past their labia majora, according to Wikipedia.

The appearance of the genitals is unique and often inherited. If you suffer from irritation, problems such as tearing during childbirth or simply dislike the appearance, then surgery can provide a satisfactory solution.

?Most are bothered most when their labia is very large, small or asymmetric,? says Dr. Heller, who also performs rhinoplasty in Manhattan. ?The goal of labiaplasty is to give their labia a balanced appearance that doesn?t negatively affect its function.?

Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure that involves excising (removing) excess skin with special scissors, a scalpel or laser. The location of incisions and amount of skin removed is unique to the individual and depends on factors such as skin texture and configuration. Dissolvable sutures are used to close incisions and disappear within one to two weeks.

Vaginoplasty addresses the dissatisfaction you have with your vaginal canal and its mucous membrane, which is often due to changes caused by aging and childbirth.

?Women often seek vaginoplasty to reverse vaginal relaxation in order to enhance their sexual experiences,? Dr. Heller says.

Childbirth and aging are the two main causes of vaginal relaxation. With age, the vaginal muscles become lax and the stretching that childbirth causes sometimes leave women feeling as if they are too loose and unable to feel their partner inside them, achieve orgasm or feel friction.

Although labiaplasty can enhance sexual experiences, like vaginoplasty, it won?t address deeper rooted issues such as lack of sexual interest or orgasmic inadequacy. These types of issues should be resolved prior to seeking surgery.

The procedure involves placing incisions inside the vagina to tighten the muscles, which leaves the patient with increased contraction strength and control. Within two weeks, patients are recovered and their sutures have dissolved.
